For MY prayer Has Always Been Love

New Works By Pete Hocking

JUNE 29TH - JULY 8TH, 2018

Four Eleven Gallery presents Pete Hocking’s fifth solo exhibition, For My Prayer Has Always Been Love. Hocking conducts visual research on the natural and manmade changes to landscapes and communities on Cape and beyond. His expressive use of paint and striking compositions draw the eye deep into his scene selections, evoking the relationships between personhood, space and place. For this show, he creates graceful elegies honoring one of the most significant relationships in a person’s life.

In the artist’s words: “My mother first came to Provincetown in 1936 when she was 11-years old. She brought me to the Outer Cape as an infant, passing forward her love for its wildness. Conceived and developed during her final weeks, these paintings, which explore wild and domesticated nature, are part documentary of a beloved landscape and part remembrance of our shared mythology. More importantly, they whisper our prayer for uncommon love.”

Opening Reception: Friday, June 29th, 7-9pm
