MATTHEW CAPALDO: STILL

Appearing in his fourth season at Four Eleven, Matthew Capaldo creates paintings using a variety of image sources such as personal photographs, film, and imagined landscapes. His figurative paintings continue to explore the theme of relationship to self and others. Capaldo began work on this new series of paintings by choosing images seemingly at random or by impulse. His personal narrative emerges from this larger external one in an era where we are inundated and saturated by the rapid changing visual placements of social media. Yet Capaldo creates these images in the tradition of oil paint on canvas and the works ask us to slow down, pause and take him in.
