The THINNEST VEIL

THE PSYCHOLOGY OF The Figure

OCTOBER 20TH - NOVEMBER 2ND, 2017

Four Eleven Gallery presents The Thinnest Veil: Psychology of the Figure, including Naya Bricher, Matthew Capaldo, Grace Carney, Liz Carney, Andrew Clemons, Janie Evers, Helen Grimm, Pete Hocking, Paul Rizzo, Laura Shabott, Anya Smolnikova and Julie Smith. The works presented in The Thinnest Veil: Psychology of the Figure invite viewers to consider Provincetown’s long tradition of figurative painting. Late October is when ancient peoples thought the veil between this world and the next was at its thinnest. Shorter days inspire a contemplation of mortality, but also push us to remember that all endings make way for new beginnings. October is a time when we're called to think about our bodies in relation to our environment. While Provincetown's extraordinary light has fueled many painters' imaginations, this show invites artists to look inward, metaphorically considering the body--and the psyche--in times of lowering light, sharp contrasts, and darkness.

Opening Reception: Friday, October 20th, 7-9pm
