7 AM Paintings

NEW Work BY LIZ CARNEY

June 24th - 30th, 2022

Four Eleven Gallery announces 7am Paintings: New Work By Liz Carney. The show opens Friday, June 24th  and runs through June 30th. Most of the paintings were completed at Liz’s kitchen table, or at Higgins Pond in Brewster, and they all share the warm, serene brightness of late-spring mornings. Carney’s depictions of fresh flowers alongside David Graeber’s book The Dawn of Everything are imbued with the sense of vivid new possibilities.

Carney is the Artistic Director and founder of Four Eleven Gallery and works alongside gallery artists Pete Hocking, Helen Grimm and Mary Giammarino en plein air. Hocking says, “"It's a joy to paint with Liz. She's so attentive to what's going on in the group, and she always sparks a lively conversation about the nature of painting -- both about what's happening and what's possible. Every time we paint together, she helps me see better.”

Born and brought up in the Boston neighborhood of Dorchester, Liz is one of nine children, eight of them girls. She always painted as a child and, at 14, studied with portrait painter Robert Cormier at the Fenway Studios. She then took classes at Massachusetts College of Art and graduated from Smith College with a degree in Studio Art. Her work is in public and private collections nationwide.
